How we calculate

2026-27 resident tax rates, less the low income tax offset where it applies (up to $700, nil from $66,667), and the 2% Medicare levy on taxable income. The HECS-HELP figures use the 2026-27 marginal repayment system on repayment income; with no salary sacrifice or other items that equals your salary. "In your pay" is spread evenly; your pay slip uses ATO withholding tables and can differ by a few dollars, or by more with bonuses. Appropriate hospital cover means private patient hospital cover with an excess of $750 or less for a single person. Full method on the take-home pay calculator.
